400 beneficiaries get cash aid in Northern Luzon

AROUND 400 beneficiaries from Baguio, Pangsainan, and La Union received P10,000 each from former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies in Congress on July 2, as part of their weekly Sampung Libong Pag-asa program.

Launched on May 1, the Sampung Libong Pag-asa campaign takes off from Cayetano’s economic recovery plan, which seeks to distribute cash aid to Filipino families to help them purchase their basic needs and revive their sources of income amid the ongoing pandemic.

The program has since distributed cash aid to more than 3,600 Filipinos, most of whom have invested a part of their aid to jumpstart their small businesses.

Cayetano, his wife Taguig Second District Representative Lani Cayetano, and their allies, Camarines Sur Second District Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr., Bulacan First District Representative Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado, Batangas Second District Representative Raneo Abu, Laguna First District Representative Dan Fernandez, and Anakalusugan Partylist Representative Mike Defensor led Friday’s programs.

The group filed the 10K Ayuda Bill in February in a bid to allot P10,000 in direct stimulus per family or P1,500 per family member, whichever is higher.

The bill was considered during the joint hearing conducted by the Committees on Social Services and Economic Affairs on Bayanihan 3 but the 10,000 provision was not adopted.

Prior to the event, a pre-show called the Ayuda Bayanihan Caravan will be aired on Cayetano’s official Facebook page.

A Sugod Bahay beneficiary and 10 Facebook commenters are expected to receive their cash aid in advance at the Baguio Convention Center. (PR)
