WITH more than 50,000 individuals fully vaccinated in Davao City, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio hopes the city’s accelerated vaccination drive will slow down the spread of Covid-19 cases in the city.
“Hopefully, mapaspas nato ang atong vaccination so that mubaba cases nato, bisan dili nato ma-achieve ang herd immunity that is our hope (we can speed up our vaccination to slow down our cases even if we cannot achieve herd immunity in time – that is our hope),” Duterte-Carpio said.
Davao City is expecting more deliveries of Covid-19 vaccines, as the National Covid-19 Task Force promised to send more, especially in areas frequently experiencing case surges.
The mayor had been calling Dabawenyos to have themselves vaccinated for the city to achieve herd immunity and reopen the economy.
"We encourage everyone na magpabakuna (to get vaccinated) because we really need to achieve that point of percentage of immunity para sa atoang mga tao (for our people) so that we can open our city immediately," Duterte-Carpio said.
As of Monday, July 5, the city has recorded 25,740 Covid-19 cases, of which, 4,456 are active, 20,382 have recovered and 902 have died.
Davao City is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until July 15 due to a surge of cases resulting in overwhelming hospital and treatment facility capacity.
Duterte-Carpio said the city targets to immediately administer the vaccines coming from the national government.
The mayor said the city has already exceeded its targeted 10,000 vaccinated individuals per day.
"We can achieve that except magdepende siya kung daghan ang bakuna (It would depend on the vaccines that will be alloted here). Even more, because there was a day that we were able to do 13,000," she said.
According to the Davao City Vaccination Cluster as of July 4, 2021, a total of 248,285 were already given as first dose, while 52,038 were administered as the second dose. Those who have received two doses are considered fully vaccinated.
A total of 300,321 doses have been administered across different active vaccination sites in the city.
Of the figure, 42,996 healthcare workers (A1) have already received their first shot while 27,247 are now fully vaccinated.
Under the A2 category or senior citizens, 73,054 have received their first dose while 13,072 are now fully vaccinated.
The vaccination cluster also said that 94,828 persons with comorbidities (A3) have received their first jab, while 11,579 have received their two doses.
The City Government continues its Covid-19 inoculation drive to the economic workers or the A4 group this week with 30,720 eligible individuals having received their first dose against Covid-19.
Also, at least 6,685 indigents were given their first dose, while 140 already received their second dose as Davao City started inoculating those in the A5 sector, specifically for residents belonging to IP communities in Marilog.
The City Government has been administering anti-Covid vaccines such as the American firm’s Pfizer, Russia's Sputnik V, China's Sinovac, and Britain's AstraZeneca.
The city is targeting to vaccinate an estimated 1.2 million population before the end of the year.
