HOUSEHOLD transmission remained to be the leading source of infection in Davao City, based on the latest data from the City Covid-19 Task Force.
Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser presented on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, during the 19th City Council the current Covid-19 situation in the city wherein 55.59 percent transmissions were recorded within households, while 42.16 percent are from outside transmission.
Based on the infection breakdown and analysis from June 27 to July 3, 1,089 cases were recorded as household transmission, while 826 were from the outside.
On the outside transmission, majority of cases or 645 (78.09 percent) were recorded in establishments, followed by hospitals with 148 cases (17.92 percent), then government offices - 16 cases (1.94 percent), transportation - six cases (0.72 percent), church or private chapel - five cases (0.61 percent), locally stranded individuals/overseas Filipino workers/authorized person outside residences - three cases (0.36 percent), social gatherings - two cases (0.24 percent), and delivery services - one case (0.12 percent).
Schlosser said Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) had the most number of recorded cases. The most number of clustering of cases were reported in some business process outsourcing (BPOs), banks, malls, hospitals, government offices, and police stations.
Eight establishments are currently under lockdown, she said.
Schlosser added the city continues to intensify the implementation of the zoning containment strategy for all types of lockdown for both establishment and household.
During the session, the Task Force official cited some issues and challenges in the city's Covid-19 response.
She said private molecular laboratories are having delays in reporting results to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (Resu).
CHO Acting Head Dr. Ashley Lopez said in a recent radio interview that clustering of cases within offices and establishments are gradually declining, while household transmissions are slowly contributing to the current surge of cases in the city.
Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in a previous interview, said the continued mobility of people outside their residences also contributed to the current surge in the city.
"Plus kanang infections nga mahitabo sa sulod sa balay kay sa sulod sa balay wala man gyud tay mask, wala man tay distancing (Infections are happening within households because no one wears a face mask and distancing is not being observed), we don’t practice minimum public health standards inside sa atoang mga balay (at home)," Duterte-Carpio said.
Schlosser said the city is strictly imposing a lockdown on establishments with clustering of cases and those that failed to provide and declare an honest and comprehensive close contact line list to the District Health Officer Contact Tracer.
In addition, establishments that are not imposing health protocols in their premises were also subjected to lockdown.
She said they also consider establishments with clustering cases as violating the health protocols.
