DUMAGUETE CITY – A health official in Negros Oriental reiterated on Wednesday that not a single case of the Delta variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has been reported in the province.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, also the Covid-19 ground commander of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), appealed to the public to stop spreading rumors about the Delta variant as it causes confusion and fear.
“As of today, we have not received any report of a new variant. As I have said again and again, we only have one Alpha variant case, one Beta, and five Theta,” she said in mixed English and Cebuano during a virtual presser.
Estacion said the latest to be reported here was the Beta or South African variant which was detected in a returning overseas Filipino from Lebanon and who hails from Dauin town.
While massive contact tracing is still ongoing, the infected person has already recovered, she said. Other variant cases previously reported are also already negative of the infection, she added.
Meanwhile, Estacion said as of July 7, 2021, the province has vaccinated 46,680 individuals for the first dose and 13,558 with the second dose.
For the first dose, the recipients belonged to priority groups A1 (medical/health care workers), 17,239; A2 (senior citizens), 21,702; A3 (persons with comorbidities (5,967); and A4 (economic front-liners), 1,772.
On the other hand, those who are now “fully-vaccinated” are from A1 (medical/health care workers), 10,169; A2 (senior citizens) 2,640; A3 (persons with comorbidities), 477; and A4 (economic front-liners), 302. (PNA)
