ONE of the areas with most confirmed cases, Calumpang kickstarted Iloilo City's barangay-based vaccination site Friday, July 9, 2021, as part of its continuing effort to build community protection against Covid-19.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed the initiative seeks to bring vaccines closer to residents and for convenience of senior citizens and persons with comorbidities, making it easier, faster and accessible for them.

He noted it is being done in Manila where people no longer need to travel far to get vaccinated.

Punong Barangay Roberto Niño Jr. said they identified 300 consist of senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities vaccinated at Marian Hall of Miraculous Medal Parish; and those who are bed-ridden vaccinated in their homes.

"As pilot barangay, we hope to vaccinate the vulnerable sector where it is accessible for them or easier to go to. They can give testimonies to their fellows who are still afraid to get vaccinated. This is a good move of the City Government to make the vaccination program closer to the people," Niño said.

The mayor also asked other barangay captains to start identifying bed-ridden residents to set their schedules for vaccinators to visit them when it is their turn. (PR)
