SIX members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) peacefully surrendered to government authorities in Pagalungan, North Cotabato province, military officials announced Friday, July 9, 2021.
Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the six BIFF surrenderers yielded high-powered firearms when they surrendered Wednesday, July 7, to Brigadier General Roberto Capulong, 602nd Infantry Brigade commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Mundala, commander of the 90th Infantry Battalion.
Vinluan said the firearms they handed over included one M-16 Armalite rifle, two M-14 rifles, and three rocket-propelled grenades with ammunition.
He said the BIFF surrenderers were then presented to Mayor Salik Mamasabulod of Pagalungan, North Cotabato.
Mundala only identified them through their aliases as Alex, Kaliya, Bernie, Nasser, Abdul Adies and Datu, who belong to the BIFF-Karialan Faction.
They were placed under custodial debriefing.
“The surrender of the six is a result of the joint efforts of the 602Bde, 90IB, Pagalungan Municipal Police Station, and the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and PNP (Philippine National Police) intelligence units,” Capulong said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
