Food crawl 2021 in Moalboal, Cebu

THE town of Moalboal in Cebu has become one of the go-to destination spots of Cebuanos when they are in need of a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

Lately, Moalboal has been surging in popularity for three reasons: its island life vibe, its magnificent diving spots -- especially for those who have just recently found out their love for freediving -- and finally, the food trip.

It was only a matter of time before more restaurants, cute cafes, food shacks and bars opened in Moalboal to accommodate more weekend visitors and patrons. Apart from long-time favorites, here are a few of the somewhat new food and drink spots that you should not miss the next time you are in Moalboal.

Smooth Café

This popular coffee shop in Moalboal aims to smooth one’s day with freshly roasted coffee using locally sourced, fine quality coffee beans mainly from the Cordillera mountains. To pair with its coffee, Smooth Café also offers great quality food like its Quinoa salad, pizza, burgers, sandwiches and delicious cakes. It also serves vegan food to cater to its vegan customers. Cocktails are also available at its mini bar.

The place is also perfect for grabbing an easy-bite breakfast, hanging out with friends after a whole day under the sun, or chilling by yourself.

Mira at Club Serena

Mira at Club Serena brings a unique array of signature Filipino dishes and fusion cuisine to heighten your experience and treat your five senses. Feel, see, hear, smell and taste pure indulgence when you try any of its delightful gastronomic offerings.

Kugita Seafood and Charcoal Grill

A family-owned fusion and eco-friendly restaurant, Kugita Seafood and Charcoal Grill brings out the perfect mix of elegance and chill. This al fresco establishment takes pride in its unique concept of fusing sushi and barbecue, like its Kugita rolls and Moalboal rolls, which both feature local seafood produce and ingredients. Diners would also enjoy the restaurant’s main entrées, including the perfectly seared Tomahawk Chops, and Charlie’s Chicken, its chef’s elevated take on chicken halang-halang.

Café Okeanos

At this groovy-inspired café, you will leave with a cheerful vibe and a happy tummy. Aside from serving hearty all-breakfast meals and good coffee, Café Okeanos just recently launched its new savory addition to its menu to offer more diverse food options to Moalboal guests such as Chicken Red Thai Curry, Pork Jaeger Schnitzel in Champignon Sauces and Buttered Vegetables in Coco Masala, to name a few.

You will also fall in love with its latte art as you can request “dog-inspired art” on your coffee.

Trattoria Altrove

If you feel like indulging yourself on a gastronomical tour through Italy, El Nido and Coron’s famous delicious pizza made in a brick-oven is also available in Moalboal. Trattoria Altrove’s pizzas are made from scratch, and they are authentically Neapolitan with a crispy thin crust and typically soft center. Crowd favorites include Prosciutto Crudo con Tartufo, and Quattro Stagioni. You can also take pleasure in creating your own pizza and choosing any of your favorite toppings with Margherita Pizza as a base. The trattoria also serves pasta classics like the Gamberi e Olio d’Oliva, Pollo e Cream con Tartufo and Fruitti di Mare. You can also choose your own pasta with spaghetti, fettucine or penne as options.

Though its interior highlights a warm homey island vibe, with a tinge of elegance and intimacy, every dish will bring you to Italy. Don’t forget to order a glass of wine to complete your experience.
