Comelec to conduct ERB hearing for new registrants

THE Election Registration Board (ERB) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City will conduct its hearing for new registrants on July 19.

City Election Registrar Kathrina Cana said they will evaluate all of the documents submitted by the new registrants.

She said they have a total of 10, 199 pending applications that are subject for ERB hearing on July 19.

She added that as of April 2021, they registered a total of 294, 330 voters.

Cana also clarified that they are only accepting registrants who are residents of Bacolod City.

This, after it was posted on social media last week that a vehicle from one of the municipalities in Negros Occidental was seen parked outside a mall in the city where a satellite registration was conducted.

Some netizens commented that its passengers, who are allegedly not from Bacolod, joined the voter registration.

“Before they can register, we are asking for their identification cards or a guarantor to prove that they are residents in Bacolod City and if they are not, we are not accepting them," Cana said.

She said the vehicle that was posted on social media was only seen parked near the mall and they don't have proof that its passengers joined the satellite registration.

Comelec has an ongoing satellite registration in SM City Bacolod Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Registrants should bring their valid government identification cards (ID) with pictures and signatures, as well as an original and photocopy of their birth certificate.

Cana said they will ensure that health protocols will be observed in the venues such as wearing of face masks, face shields and social distancing.
