A P1.6 billion medium-rise condominium-type housing project for government employees is set to rise in the uplands of Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City.

Called Southpark Residences, the project broke ground on Friday, July 9, 2021.

Project proponent National Housing Authority (NHA) announced the units will be for personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and employees of city, provincial and municipal halls.

Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) may also avail of the low-cost housing should there be units still available three months after the project’s completion in February 2023.

NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. said the project will be composed of two 10-story buildings and one 13-story residential building.

It will have a total of 850 units broken down as follows: 35 percent (AFP), 35 percent (PNP), 20 percent (Cebu City Hall, Provincial Government, and municipal employees), and 10 percent (PCG, BFP and BJMP).

Each unit will measure 42 square meters.

Subsidy

Escalada said the Government will offer P100,000 subsidies for military and police personnel who will avail of a unit in Southpark Residences.

Each unit will be priced at around P1.7 million, a much lower cost than Pag-ibig Fund’s appraised value, said Escalada.

No equity will be charged and buyers will only pay straight monthly installments for the next 30 years.

“This is very affordable and a decent house for our government employees,” said

Escalada.

Escalada said those who want to apply for units only need to process their pre-qualification documents at the NHA and secure the requirements of a Pag-ibig Fund takeout.

AFP Central Command chief Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan welcomed the development and encouraged members of the military to avail of the program.

Ancan said this will especially benefit those from other provinces assigned in Cebu so that when their families come to visit, they will have a “decent place to live in.”

Ancan said the AFP will prioritize applicants who are still in active service.

For Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 chief, the project will be a big help to police personnel who are only renting a space in the city.

Montejo said renting is costly and an additional expense for policemen.

Regardless of their rank, Montejo said all policemen who want to avail of the units will be given the same priority treatment.

Montejo encouraged policemen who already own a house to give others a chance.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, who represented Mayor Edgardo Labella during the ceremony, said the men and women of the AFP and PNP truly deserve this program.

“I can imagine there’s nothing more they look forward to than to come home to a safe and sound house after carrying out their duties and ensuring the security and safety of this city, and of this nation,” said Garcia.
