City Health Office notes increase in dengue cases in May, June

THE City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro has noted a slight rise in the number of dengue cases in the city in the months of May and June.

According to the data from the City Health Office, the city recorded 34 dengue cases in May 2021, whereas in the same month in 2020, the city had 30 dengue cases.

In June of this year, Cagayan de Oro logged 38 dengue cases while in June 2020, the city had 36 dengue cases.

At present, only two dengue cases were recorded in July 2021.

In July 2020, 58 dengue cases were logged in Cagayan de Oro. However, the most number of dengue cases registered in the city on the same year was in January with 253 cases, followed by February with 145 cases, and March with 84 cases.

In the months of January, February and March 2021, the city recorded 51, 47, and 62 cases, respectively.

City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya advised the public to practice the 4S in fighting dengue, especially since its already rainy season.

The 4S include: Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites, Seek early consultation, Secure self-protection measures, and Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
