THE Department of Agriculture (DA) turned over last week the P109-million farm-to-market road project to the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur.
The 11.88 kilometers farm-to-market road project connects two national road junctions of both Ramon Magsaysay and Tukuran municipalities from Gapasan-Laperian-Buenasuerte-Sambulawan villages down to Navalan national road junction.
Rad Donn Cedeño, DA regional executive director, said the P109 million worth of infrastructure investment would lift the burden of high hauling and transport cost to at least 1,847 households producing coconut, corn, rice, cassava, banana, mango, rubber, coffee, root crops and vegetables.
Cedeño hopes that the village officials would take the lead in the clearing and maintenance of the road shoulders so that the project will last 20 years and beyond.
Having a good road network, Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor Yu underscored that all the programs and services from the government could reach the people much faster—from agriculture, livelihood, health, social welfare, including technology.
In totality, Yu said a good road serves as a springboard to boost the economy.
Both recipient municipal mayors Leonilo Borinaga, Sr. of Ramon Magsaysay and Macario Tingson of Tukuran expressed thanks and gratitude to Cedeño and Yu for the lasting road that would spur increase in farm production giving more income to the farmers. (SunStar Zamboanga)
