THE Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (IB) bestowed the “Matapat Eagle Award” to one of its retirees as an appreciation to his dedication to military service for the past 22 years.

The recipient of the “Matapat Eagle Award” was Staff Sergeant Ericson Carlito, who has been serving the people as a soldier since November 1998.

A Certificate of Appreciation was also given to Carlito’s wife, Perlita, for her invaluable support to his husband while serving the Filipino people.

Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB commander, led the awarding of the Matapat Eagle Award and Certificate of Appreciation to the Carlito couple in a simple ceremony last week at Camp Major David Sabido that houses the 53IB headquarters in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

“I thank our Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera and all the Matapat Troopers for this [Matapat Eagle] award and this ceremony. Even after I retire, I will look for ways to be of help to you, my fellow Matapat Troopers,” Carlito said.

Herrera congratulated Carlito for “finishing the race.”

“You spent your life for the country, but the time has come to look after yourself and your family. We are very grateful to have you in serving the communities and securing the province of Zamboanga del Sur,” Herrera said.

“Your achievements have made the difference in the Armed Forces and I commend your dedication and patriotism,” Herrera added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
