THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) warned the public against individuals calling and posing as DSWD representatives.
The agency received reports from various individuals, including members of the press, who were called by persons introducing themselves as DSWD employees and asking for their personal information in exchange for financial assistance.
DSWD said that it does not request such information under the Data Privacy Act of 2012. It is planning to “take appropriate action and investigation” on the issue.
According to the agency, the provision of financial assistance and food and non-food items is given through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations under DSWD’s Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) located at its central office and in all DSWD field offices nationwide. CIU clients undergo an assessment to avail of the needed assistance.
In a statement, DSWD called on the public to be extra vigilant. Persons who received similar phone scams are advised to report them to the nearest DSWD field office. (PR)
