Duterte, daughter lead Pulse Asia survey

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and President Rodrigo Duterte received the highest number of votes among the potential presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the latest Pulse Asia survey.

Around 28 percent of the respondents said they would vote for Duterte-Carpio if the elections were held at the time of the survey.

Sharing second place are Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso (14 percent), former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (13 percent) and Senator Grace Poe (10 percent).

Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao (8.0 percent), Vice-President Maria Leonor G. Robredo (6.0 percent) and Senator Panfilo M. Lacson (4.0 percent) came in third.

The other personalities included in this presidential probe register voter preferences of at most 3.0 percent. Indecision as regards their preferred presidential candidate/refusal to name their favored candidate/non-support for any presidentiable are sentiments expressed by 8.0 percent of the respondents.

For the vice-presidential race, the President was in for a tight race with Domagoso. Duterte received 18 percent of the votes in the survey while Domagaso received 14 percent.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III (10 percent), Marcos (10 percent), Pacquiao (9.0 percent), Taguig City-Pateros Representative Alan Peter Cayetano (8.0 percent) and Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero (7.0 percent) share second place.

Other possible candidates for vice-president each record first-choice voter preferences of at most 5.0 percent. The rest of the respondents were either undecided about whom to vote for as vice-president or refused to name their vice-presidential bet or were not inclined to support anyone for the post.

For the senatorial race, 64 percent of the respondents already have a complete slate for the May 2022 senatorial election. Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao and Domagoso shared the lead at 54 percent and 53.7 percent, respectively)

Four individuals jointly occupy third to sixth places, namely, Duterte-Carpio (47.7 percent), Raffy Tulfo (46.4 percent), Alan Peter Cayetano (46 percent) and Escudero (45.6 percent).

The survey fieldwork was conducted from June 7 to 16, 2021 using face-to-face interviews with 2,400 representative adults 18 years old and above.

It has a ± 2.0 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level. Subnational estimates for each of the geographic areas covered in the survey have a ± 4.0 percent error margin, also at 95 percent confidence level. (SunStar Philippines from PR)
