Police seize P260,000 smuggled cigarettes

THE Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Special Operations Group has seized P260,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes in separate anti-criminality police operations in the province, a top police official said.

Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the first confiscation was made around 7:20 p.m. Monday, July 12, in New Tambo village, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The operatives were on special operations when they received information about smuggled cigarettes at a warehouse in New Tambo village.

Ylagan said the operatives seized 11 boxes of assorted smuggled cigarettes with an estimated market value of P150,000.

The second confiscation was made by the same unit of police operatives around 8 p.m. Monday, July 12, in Conacon village, Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

The operatives also seized nine boxes of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated worth of P110,000.

Ylagan said the confiscated assorted brand of cigarettes were brought to Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Police Office for proper investigation prior to their turnover to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
