LAST July 10, Saturday, was the first scheduled batch of the very first Barangay Awareness Campaign on Animal Welfare and Responsible Pet ownership" launched by the Community Animal Rescue Efforts Inc. (Care) in partnership with Falcor Marketing and Albee Benitez as main sponsors of the event.

Falcor gave out TopBreed freebies to those who availed of the "Free Kapon Program," intended to educate the community in every Barangay with the Animal Welfare Act (Republic Act) 8485 that fights against animal cruelty and our City Ordinance 544, which is about responsible pet ownership.

The seminar included the difference between a shelter and a city pound, a comparison between a non-government organization (NGO) and a local government unit (LGU), the importance of spay and neuter to curbing the overpopulation of strays, and its importance to the health of our domesticated pets.

Due to the number of animal cruelty reports, steps on how to file a complaint against animal cruelty were discussed. The results of overpopulation of strays in the city and how it causes accidents in the streets and creates misconceptions about rabid dogs were also discussed.

The main goal of these events is to cater to those families or individuals that cannot afford to pay for the spay and neuter procedures for their pets which usually costs P4,000-P8,000 depending on the sizes, weight, and type of their domesticated pets.

The seminar was well organized and has strict compliance with the Covid-19 health protocols to educate more people in the city targeting every barangay. Batches were divided in the afternoon into two with a total of 38 participants.

Having their pets spayed and neutered will help avoid major illnesses, lessen aggression among animals when females are in heat and are proven effective on how to curb and stop the overpopulation of strays in the city making it an animal-friendly community.
