Totally bedridden persons in Iloilo to get financial aid

THE totally bedridden persons in the province of Iloilo are set to receive not more than P2,000 per quarter financial assistance from the Iloilo Provincial Government.

The 13th Provincial Board of Iloilo approved Provincial Ordinance 2021-255 on third and final reading last Tuesday, July 13, during its regular session. The author of the ordinance is Vice Governor Christine Garin.

The qualified beneficiaries will receive financial assistance, free medical examinations, laboratory, and admission to the hospital being managed by the Iloilo Provincial Government.

The financial assistance and medical benefits are on top of the other benefits given by the local government units or national government agencies.

"The ordinance that I authored granting financial assistance to totally bedridden persons for a maximum of P2,000 per quarter, and free medical exams, labs, and admission in the hospitals managed by the Province of Iloilo, is now approved on the third and final reading," Garin said.

To qualify for financial assistance, one must be a totally bedridden person for at least one year as certified by a government doctor; must be a member of the Iloilo Provincial Federation of Persons with Disability Associations with a valid PWD ID card; must be a resident of the Province of Iloilo for at least six consecutive months, which shall be certified by the punong barangay and with a certificate of residency; and shall belong to the indigent family as certified by the Social Welfare and Development Office of the concerned local government unit.

The initial fund of P20 million will be allocated from the budget of the Office of the Governor. The initial fund will be used for the implementation of the ordinance. The same amount shall be appropriated in the subsequent Annual Budget of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

The presiding officer was overwhelmed by the support and cooperation of the members of the Provincial Board who were sponsors and co-sponsors of her ordinance.
