THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution urging the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to reconsider its decision to put the City of Bacolod under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from July 16 to 31, 2021.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Renecito Novero, was approved during the regular session of the City Council Wednesday afternoon, July 14.

Novero said the City of Bacolod has been placed by the IATF under general community quarantine (GCQ) status from July 1-15, 2021 due to the rising cases of Covid-19 in the city in the month of June 2021, which reached then the relative level of 2, 013 positive cases.

"As of today, our records at the City Emergency Operations Center IEOC) show that there is a steady decline of Covid-19 positive cases in the city considering that from the figure of 2, 013 positive patients as of June 14 it has gone down already to 1, 163 positive cases as of July 14," he said.

He added that City Health Office (CHO) records also show that the city is currently experiencing a steady decline in its hospital utilization rate of 53.59 percent as of July 13, compared to 84.65 percent in the last four weeks.

Novero noted the inoculation program of the City Government is also steadily improving on the daily basis as vaccines arrive so that the total number of vaccines administered already stands now in the vicinity of 82,110 as of July 13 and the figure is steadily increasing as vaccine rollouts are made available to its residents.

Novero said the current economy in the city has immensely improved since the relaxation of its community quarantine status, as businesses reopened and workers regained their jobs with strict observance of the minimum health protocols.

"It is reasonably foreseeable that the MECQ status of the city will terribly hamper its already vibrant economy and gravely prejudice its people as many businesses will shut down, many workers will become jobless, a huge fragment of public transport will halt, hundreds of drivers will be penniless, thousands of vendors will be immobilized, families will starve, demands for dole-outs will again pervade the air and the government has already depleted resources to respond to all these new tides of crisis," he said.

He added the city continues to be vigilant in its battle against Covid-19 and is relentless in its contact tracing efforts on daily basis with prepared and sufficient quarantine and isolation facilities that are managed by competent personnel who are equipped with full battle gears for their protection and mobilization in the performance of their task.
