PRC says board exams ensure professionals meet standards

THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said the conduct of licensure examinations is necessary in order to ensure that the country's professionals meet the national and international standards.

"The arguments for conducting examinations is for us to have a national qualification system in deducing professionals since they came from different training centers and have dissimilar credentials," PRC Chairman Teofilo Pilando Jr. said in a televised public briefing.

"Secondly, this is to align the credentials of our professional with international standards," he added.

Despite this, he said they were studying the possibility of scrapping the exams as directed by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

He said, however, that such a proposal will have to pass through Congress.

"We defer to the policymakers and on what they believe should be the fate of our professionals," said Pilando.

Bello suggested that the board exams be scrapped because he believes that the aspiring professionals already have had enough examinations in college. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
