Oro mayor to public: Do not panic

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno on Saturday, July 17, 2021, said the public has no need to panic despite the city being under enhance community quarantine (ECQ), assuring that they are able to "handle the situation."

"You don't need to do panic buying. Dili kinahanglan mataranta I can assure you nga we have a good handle of the situation," he added.

On July 16, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Cagayan de Oro City under ECQ until July 31, 2021.

According to a press statement from the Department of Health (DOH), six Delta variant cases were detected in Northern Mindanao, five of which were in Cagayan de Oro City and one in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

The six cases are part of a large cluster of cases, with dates of onset between June 23 to 28.

The DOH said all have been tagged as recovered.

City epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, for his part, said they brought the five Delta variant cases and their first generation close contacts to a DOH facility. Of the five cases, four were unvaccinated while the other one, an authorized person outside residence, was fully vaccinated.

All of them were asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, the vaccination rollout will continue as scheduled even with the city placed under ECQ, the city mayor said.
