Sulu cops, PDEA destroy marijuana plantation

JOINT police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives have uprooted some 11,000 fully-grown marijuana plants with an estimated worth of P9.5 million in the province of Sulu, the police reported Sunday, July 18, 2021.

The Sulu Provincial Police Office (SPPO) said marijuana plants were discovered in a raid around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in a 10,000-square-meter land in Sitio Tangan-Tangan, Lingah village, Luuk.

The police said a certain Bakil, a resident of Sitio Tangan-Tangan, Lingah village, and one of the alleged caretakers, was arrested during the raid while his cohorts were able to escape.

The uprooted marijuana plants were burned on site while pieces of sample evidence were submitted to PDEA-Zamboanga Peninsula laboratory for examination.

A case for the violation of Republic Act 9165, an act instituting the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, was readied for filing against the arrested suspect.

The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) said it is keeping on its track in the mandate of addressing the illegal drug menace in society.

The PRO-BAR has intensified the anti-illegal drug operations that are bolted in the objective of blocking illegal drug supply, neutralizing illegal drug groups, and arresting High-Value Individuals and their networks.

The command said it will continue to intensify its drug operation to fully curb the supply of illegal drugs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (SunStar Zamboanga)
