THE Bacolod Election Registration Board (ERB) is hopeful to resolve the application for registration of 242 registrants who have been opposed, including former Third District representative Alfredo “ Albee” Benitez, by the end of the month.
City Election Registrar Kathrina Caña on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, said in a radio interview that they have a total of 242 applications, including the application of Benitez, that are subject to resolution of the ERB.
On Monday, the ERB hearing was conducted at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Bacolod office where Benitez and the oppositors were also present.
The ERB was composed by Caña as chairman along with Civil Registrar Head Hermilo Pauyon and Bacolod Schools Division Superintendent Gladys Sales.
Caña said Benitez was requested to submit his position paper. The members of the ERB will then deliberate and resolve whether or not to approve or disapprove the application.
On July 13, 2021, Hector Yula, Teodoro Abao and Jonah Abao filed an opposition to the application for registration of Benitez in Bacolod. They filed the petitions on the basis that Benitez is allegedly not a resident of Bacolod City.
Aside from Benitez, they also filed the same opposition against 220 applicant voters who allegedly came from other cities and municipalities on the ground that they are not residents or domiciliaries of Bacolod City.
Caña said the decision of the ERB will be final and the aggrieved parties can go to courts.
On Monday, ERB already approved a total of 9, 957 applications to vote in Bacolod.
