Rey Suerte returns to Gilas Pilipinas

Former two-time Cesafi MVP Rey Anthony Suerte will be making his return to the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team after he was picked to be part of the team that will compete in the King Abdullah Cup in Jordan

Suerte, the high-leaping wingman from the University of the Visayas, made the cut for the final 15 of the team that is currently sharpening its skills in time for the FIBA Asia Cup next month.

Also making a return to Gilas is Thirdy Ravena, who spent last year playing for the SanEd Neo Phoenix in the Japanese B.League. Cut from the team were Allyn Bulanadi and Tzaddy Rangel.

Completing the team are Dwight Ramos, Angelo Kouame, Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, Mike Nieto, Dave Ildefonso, Geo Chiu, Jordan Heading, Justine Baltazar, RJ Abarrientos, SJ Belangel, William Navarro and Cebuano forward Carl Tamayo.

The Gilas has a busy schedule ahead of them next week. They first battle Egypt on July 26 and then Saudi Arabia the following day. They will take on Jordan-A on July 28, then Tunisia on the 29th. They finish off their assignments in the tournament with a match versus Jordan-B on July 30. (JNP)
