Infections among PGH workers decline

AS MORE healthcare workers at the University of the Philippines Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) received the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), infections went down to just 28 in June 2021 fro, 106 in June 2020.

Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they have been receiving similar anecdotal reports which show that vaccines indeed work.

"We’re getting these kinds of reports from our other hospitals also, wherein cases of infection among healthcare workers are going down because most of them are fully vaccinated already," Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing Friday, July 23, 2021.

She hoped that more people, not just healthcare workers, will choose to receive the vaccine.

"Based on these anecdoctal reports and evidences, we can say that these vaccines really work. So, let us all get vaccinated so that we can be protected," said Vergeire.

As of July 18, around 1.31 million healthcare workers have been fully vaccinated out of the 1.88 million who have received their first dose.

A total of 15,096,261 doses have been administered nationwide, across the different priority groups. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
