THE local government of Apalit has provided financial assistance on the restoration of the St. Peter's the Apostle Church.

Parish priest Rev. Msgr. Antonio Bustos personally received P1-million donation turned over by Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr., Vice Mayor Peter Nucom and member of Municipal Council on Thursday morning, July 22.

The cash donation is meant to augment the funds for the massive rehabilitation and restoration of the centuries-old parish church located in Barangay San Juan, Apalit.

This was the second time the local government donated P1 million for the restoration of the church after the one made in 2020.

Tetangco said that amid the pandemic, the local government still ensure that the town's culture and heritage is being preserved.

The St. Peter's Parish Church, built some time in 1597, is one of the most visited churches in the province, as it houses the miraculous image "Apung Iru."

"We at the local government work double time to ensure that well-rounded programs are being delivered to ApaliteƱos, including the preservation of our heritage," he said.

The rehabilitation and restoration works for the St. Peter's Parish Church started in 2017 after Parish Pastoral Council and the local government raised concerns over its structural integrity.
