BACOLOD City Election Registrar Kathrina Cana on Friday, July 23, 2021, said the opposition to the application for registration of 72 registrants in Barangay Mansilingan was already withdrawn by the complainant.

Cana said the complainant, who filed an opposition to the application for registration of 98 registrants in Barangay Mansilingan, withdrew its complaint against the 72 registrants.

She said the complainant decided to withdraw its opposition after they determined that the 72 registrants are really residents of Barangay Mansilingan.

The Election Registration Board (ERB) earlier held a hearing to review the documents of the registrants including the application for registration of former Third District representative Alfredo “ Albee” Benitez.

They have a total of 242 applications, including the application of Benitez, that are subject to the resolution of the ERB.

Cana said the opposition to the application for registration of 242 registrants was not only transfer from other cities, but some were new registrants and reactivation.

She said they are hopeful that by next week or the first week of August, the ERB will release its decision on the opposed application for registration of 242 registrants, including the application of Benitez.

On July 13, 2021, Hector Yula, Teodoro Abao and Jonah Abao filed an opposition to the application for registration of Benitez in Bacolod. They filed the petitions on the basis that Benitez is allegedly not a resident of Bacolod City.

On Monday, ERB already approved a total of 9,957 applications to vote in Bacolod.
