Khok: The P286,272 charity burger

Have you ever heard of burgers for charity? It wallops a knockout taste just like Oscar “Golden Boy” De La Hoya’s signature overhand-right-left-hook combination.

Never heard of such a burger (surely you have heard of the punch)?

On July 15, abc7news online reporter Krisann Chasarik wrote about the $5,964 or P286,272 burger for charity. The feat has been submitted for Guinness World Record for most expensive burger. For sure it will knock out the 2011 winner, a $4,971 burger made by a special events company in Oregon.

Dutch diner De Daltons recently presented “The Golden Boy” in the reserved corner for the wealthy. Chef and owner Robert Jan de Veen said the burger with the shock-value of ramp haute couture is meant for charity. He said, “All the money paid for the burger was donated to charity.” What could be in that bun?

But wait, de Veen told NY Post writer Hannah Frishberg he was saddened by the “sufferings of the masses and the dismal situation of the restaurant indsustry.”

His aim for charity is “to do good for the society.” To do this, he created The Golden Boy which means “a man who is successful and is much admired, although often only temporarily.”

His ingredients leave a long lasting impression, luxury items in themselves: Japanese Wagyu, Alaskan King crab, white truffles, Dom Perignon champagne onion rings and Beluga caviar.

The barbecue sauce has equally worth bragging rights. In part: Macallan single malt whiskey and Kopi Luwak coffee. The fermented coffee beans come from the cast off of civets that eat coffee beans.

Thought was given even to the bun and at $5k per burger, why not. The bread is embossed in edible gold!

It took nine hours to prepare one serving!

The premium ingredients and the time it took to create this champion did not disappoint.

Robert Wilemse, chairman of the Royal Dutch Food and Beverage Association, bought the burger from the Netherlands-based restaurant itself. “The ingredients complement each other and the flavors are intense,” he said.

Intensity comes from the other elements. As listed by hyperbeast.com: vintage Iberico Jamon, smoked duck egg mayo and pickled tiger tomato in Japanese matcha tea.

Although The Golden Boy is the Faberge egg in Burgerland, it still goes back to its humble roots.

Wilemse loved the burger but it seems golden forks and knives were not needed to attack it.

He said he used his hands “because that is the only way eat a burger.”

His fingers became golden after eating because the buns are covered with gold leaf.

That’s a golden ending for golden intentions.
