ANOTHER Filipina pug, Irish Magno, advances to the Round of 16 after a unanimous decision win in the Women’s Flyweight division of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Magno outclassed Kenyan Christine Ongare via a one-sided unanimous decision on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Kokugikan Arena.

Four judges had similar scores of 30-27, while one judge scored 30-26 in favor of the 29-year-old Magno.

Magno takes on Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong in the Round of 16 on July 29, 2021.

Magno and Jitpong are familiar with each other because they have already fought in the past.

Magno beat Jitpong in the semifinals of the 2019 Southeast Asian games by decision, 4-1.

Jitpong beat Algerian Roumaysa Boualam by decision to advance to the Round of 16.

On the other hand, two Filipino pugs are seeing action on Monday, July 26, 2021, Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio.

Paalam locks horns with Irish Brendan Irvine in the Round of 32 of the Men’s Flyweight division.

The 22-year-old Paalam is currently the No. 12 flyweight in AIBA. He’s also a 2019 Southeast Asian Gamea gold medalist and a 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist.

Irvine is an experienced fighter that has already competed in the Olympics. He finished 17th in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The 25-year-old Irvine qualified for the 2020 Olympics after finishing in the top eight of rhe European Olympic Qualifiers.

Petecio, in the meantime, faces off with Yu-Ting Lin in the Round of 16 of the Women’s Featherweight division.

Petecio advanced to the Round of 16 after a lopsided decision win over Marcelat Sakobi Matshu.

Lin, on the other hand, got a bye for being the division’s top seed. (EKA)
