Couple in Sibonga found dead

A COUPLE was found dead in an apparent suicide inside their house in Purok 3, Barangay Bae in Sibonga town, Cebu, Monday night, July 26, 2021.

The victims are identified as Bernardo Billaber Celada, 64, and his wife, Lolita, 62.

According to the initial police investigation, Zosimo Ordeñiza, their son-in-law, was on his way to deliver medicines for the couple.

He got suspicious when he saw that the house lights were out and the door was open.

On suspicion that something bad happened, he asked the barangay for help.

With the barangay captain and tanods, he entered the house and found the couple dead and hanging by the dining area.

Police Master Sergeant Michelle Ponce, an investigator of the Sibonga Police Station, said that Bernardo likely tied his paralyzed wife first before himself.

Only the couple lived in the house after the death of their two children.

The police also found that Bernardo attempted to commit suicide in December 2020 by drinking pesticide after his wife was hospitalized and became paralyzed, but he was stopped.

There would be no autopsy after the police investigators decided there was no foul play in the incident. (JDS)
