3 Koreans nabbed for online gaming

OPERATIVES of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested three Koreans who were caught operating online gaming sites in Angeles City.

This is in violation of their country’s law against illegal gambling.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said members of the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) arrested the aliens on Wednesday, July 28, inside a residence in Timog Park Subd., Angeles City.

The suspects reportedly set up workstations that they used to run their clandestine business.

Morente said two of those arrested, identified as Lee Jongdae, 38, and Sun Dong Ho, 39, are fugitives wanted by authorities in Seoul, while the other one, Kim Dong Heon, 31, is their accomplice in the online gaming business.

Lee is subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Cheongju district court in Chungcheong province, Korea where he is charged with setting up gambling places in violation of his country’s penal code.

Sun was accused of engaging in sexual exploitation and prostitution for allegedly operating websites in 2014 that offered Filipina prostitutes to at least 30 Korean customers.

All three aliens are currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending issuance of the order for their deportation by the bureau’s board of commissioners.

Morente said the Koreans will be deported for being undesirable aliens.

They will also be blacklisted and banned from reentering the country, he added.

“Let their arrest serve as a warning to other unscrupulous aliens that they should not use the Philippines as a venue for their illegal activities,” the BI chief said.

He cited the case of Sun who allegedly preyed on Filipino women by luring them into prostitution to cater to the sexual desires of Korean customers.

“He committed a very serious offense against our Filipino women. It is only proper that he be deported and blacklisted for what he did,” Morente said.
