THE very first extensive Animal Welfare Program in Bacolod City, “Care Kapon ang Solusyon,” started their mass free spay and neuter operation with the first batch of dogs and cats from Barangays Banago, Bata, Mandalagan, and Villamonte.
The operation was held at the Care Clinic at Kametal Mandalagan with strict compliance to Covid-19 safety health protocols on Sunday, July 25.
Community groups work together with the same inclined vision to have a safe living community that values the life of not only humans but also the animals where they can harmoniously co-exist with respect.
Having your pets spayed and neutered will help them avoid major illnesses, lessens aggression when females are in heat, and the proven process of how to curb and stop the overpopulation of strays, avoiding hazards, incidents, and accidents inflicted in the streets because of irresponsible pet ownership and will make Bacolod City an animal-friendly community.
The very first Barangay "Free Kapon Program," free spay and neuter held a seminar on education, awareness on animal welfare, fighting against animal cruelty and responsible pet ownership hosted by the Community Animal Rescue Efforts Inc. (Care) with the support of Falcor Marketing who gave away TopBreed Freebies and Congressman Albee Benitez as the main sponsor of the very first wide local Animal Welfare Program in Bacolod City.
The event successfully educated the assigned barangay with the Animal Welfare Act or Republic Act (RA) 8485, fighting against Animal Cruelty, Anti-Rabies Act (RA 9482), and our city Ordinance 544 for Responsible Pet Ownership, an ordinance establishing dog owners' responsibility requiring enclosures or fenced-in yards for pet dogs as a preventive measure against the occurrence of rabies, injury, damage, and other hazards.
A group of devoted volunteers coming from different organizations, independent animal welfare advocates and veterinarians, Dr. John Michael Cabuguason, Dr. Froilan Juntilla, Dr. Kamya Diores Macan, and Dr. John Valdevieso, and vet assistants Lloyd Lorenzo, Leoh Gumban, and Jenia Sablon-Cabuguason made the activity possible.
Newly growing Padayon Pradyek, a youth non-government organization that focuses on humanitarian, animal welfare projects and supports Mental Health Awareness, was also there to volunteer and show their support.
Maritess Mendell, our hero without a cape that rescues and fosters abused, abandoned, and neglected animals in her shelter at Bago City, as well as John Fregans, who has been a long-time expatriate volunteer of Care advocating and volunteering for the animals locally, were also present.
Kagawad Jao Pastrana and Jason S. Villa Rosa also showed their support.
