82 cops found positive for coronavirus

OVER 80 policemen assigned at the Talipapa, Novaliches Police Station have gone into isolation after testing positive for Sars-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Among these policemen were those deployed during the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte on July 26, 2021, Quezon City Police Director Antonio Yarra said.

Yarra said 184 police personnel assigned at the Talipapa, Novaliches Police Station underwent RT-PCR testing on July 23, 2021 as part of regular screening.

The results were released on Tuesday, July 27, and 82 police personnel were found positive.

“Sila ngayon ay nasa quarantine facilities na at ‘yung the rest na nag negative ay nag-oobserve ng self-isolation sa office sa kanilang places of assignment at advise na mag-observe sa kanilang sarili for possible symptoms,” said Yarra.

Yarra said 94 police personnel from the said police station were deployed for security and peace and order operations along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, venue of protest actions on July 26.

He said they were conducting contact tracing to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

As of July 28, 2021, there were 917 active Covid-19 cases in the Philippine National Police (PNP) out of the 30,010 confirmed cases, with 81 deaths and 29,012 recoveries. (SunStar Philippines)
