THE Philippines' first Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz returned home Wednesday evening, July 28, 2021, days after winning the women's 55-kilogram weightlifting category.

Diaz, 30, was welcomed by Philippine Sports Commissioner Celia Kiram and Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.

The weightlifter overtook Liao Qiuyun of China on her last lift in the clean and jerk to win with a total of 224 kilograms.

Diaz broke the 97-year Olympic gold medal drought for the Philippines when she won the women’s 55 kgs class of weightlifting on Monday night, July 26.

The Zamboanga-native is set to receive around P35 million worth of incentives from the government and private sectors.
