NMMC now in code red

THE Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), the Covid-19 referral hospital in the region, is now in code red.

According to the hospital's liaison officer Dr. Bernard Rocha, NMMC has escalated its contingency alert status to code red in response to the declaration of the Department of Health (DOH) of the code red alert level 4 status in all centers of health development, ministry of health, and DOH-retained hospitals.

"Ang NMMC nag escalate mi sa among contingency alert status to code red. The NMMC is already in code red," Rocha said.

"The code red is for us, the hospital personnel, para kabalo mi kung unsa among role karon sa hospital ug unsa'y mahitabo sa hospital," he added.

Rocha said they have increased their bed capacity for Covid-19 cases from 50 percent to 70 percent. The general services, on the other hand, have gone down from 50 percent to 30 percent.

At present, there are a total of 210 beds dedicated for Covid-19 cases at the NMMC.

The critical care capacity of the hospital has also increased, with to Covid-19 beds dedicated for critical care now at 140.

NMMC's code red status also made the suspension of all elective surgeries.

"For the moment, all elective surgeries will be suspended. So dili lang sa ta mag opera sa tanang mga elective surgeries for now," Rocha said.

Hemodialysis and chemotherapy, however, will continue in full capacity.

"We are doing our best na hopefully na we can balance everything so we are increasing the capacity to cater into more Covid patients dinhi sa atong hospital in as much as also we still have our general services," Rocha said.
