16% of Iloilo City’s population fully vaxxed

MORE than 73,000 or some 16 percent of the total target population in Iloilo City have been fully vaccinated as of July 27, 2021.

Of the 73,174 vaccinees, 41,293 got Sinovac and 9,556 got AstraZeneca which are both two-dose shots, while 22,325 got the one-dose Johnson & Johnson, according to records of City Health Office.

These were administered from the Covax-donated vaccines allocations of the national government.

"Congratulations to the Iloilo City vaccination team. Record-breaking vaccination of 15,718 persons vaccinated last Monday, the highest in the whole region. Salamat gid sa inyo!" Mayor Jerry Treñas said.

He added that more will be accommodated when the city’s own purchased AstraZeneca starts rollout this August.

The city targets to fully vaccinate a total of 450,000 to achieve herd immunity.

The metropolis is utilizing for more than a thousand capacity the megasites, including Ateneo de Iloilo, Central Philippine University, University of San Agustin, University of the Philippines Visayas, and Iloilo City National High School; and malls Megaworld Festive Transport Hub, Robinsons Jaro, and SM City.

Barangay-based sites serve hundreds and some hospitals are also catering to more than a hundred.

Residents and non-resident workers of city-based companies are encouraged to pre-register in their barangays, malls or Globe vax booth in front of Jaro Cathedral to avail of vaccines. (PR)
