THE daily positivity rate continued to increase, reaching a new high of 16.2 percent on Thursday, July 29, 2021.

Testing output improved to 49,392 on July 27 as only one laboratory was unable to submit its output to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Of the samples tested, 16.2 percent yielded positive results, the highest rate since the 16 percent on May 2, 2021.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH) case bulletin, there were 5,735 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), 176 additional deaths and 4,069 recoveries.

With the new cases and the removal of 115 duplicates from the tally, the total Covid-19 case count went up to 1,572,287.

The 176 additional deaths, which included 132 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll to 27,577. The case fatality rate remained low at 1.75 percent.

Total recoveries increased to 1,488,437, despite the reclassification of the 132 cases that were actually mortalities and 182 cases that were found to be active cases.

The active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities went up to 56,273, or 3.6 percent of the cumulative case count. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
