Teacher, 26, kills self in Eastern Samar

A 26-YEAR-OLD public school teacher who was allegedly mired in debt died from an apparent suicide in Eastern Samar town Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

The victim, still single, was already hanging with a rope on his neck when he was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the police.

Police added the victim had an argument with another person some 30 minutes before the incident.

He was rushed to a hospital but was proclaimed dead by the attending physician.

In an initial investigation, police said the motive of the incident “was due to financial problems for said teacher was full of loans and his ATM card was pawned.”

Earlier, a public health expert reminded the public of the importance of mental health in the midst of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

"Don't forget to talk to our family and friends. Check in on each other. Talk about our feelings, our experiences, our challenges,” said Filipino Balik Scientist Dr. Christian Gloria, former department chair of Public Health at Hawaii Pacific University.

“If someone needs professional assistance (psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor), let's help them be connected to those resources," Gloria told Sunstar Philippines.
