DOH confirms 10 Delta cases in Eastern Visayas

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas said Thursday, July 29, 2021, that 10 Delta variant cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were detected in the region.

Health Regional Director Exuperia Sabalberino said the cases are from Borongan City (5), Arteche (1), Can-Avid (3), all in Eastern Samar, and Tacloban City (1).

The health official added the 10 cases were local transmission since they do not have travel history outside the region.

“We are doing an investigation for forward and backward contact tracing to know the extent of the transmission,” said Sabalberino during the virtual press conference.

The DOH official, however, said all 10 Delta cases have already recovered.

“With the recent news about the transmission of the Delta variant in the region, the Department of Health continues to appeal to the public to keep practicing the minimum public health standards,” the regional health department said.

“And while there is an opportunity to get vaccinated, we encourage the public to register and contact your nearest local government unit,” it added.

Meanwhile, the region recorded 291 new Covid-19 cases and 190 new recoveries on Thursday.

Eastern Visayas has 35,697 total Covid-19 cases, with 33,775 (94.61 percent) recoveries, 420 (1.18 percent) deaths, and 1,502 (4.21 percent) active cases. (SunStar Philippines)
