6 nabbed in Leyte drug stings

AUTHORITIES in Leyte arrested six suspects in separate buy-bust operations in the towns of Carigara and Hilongos Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

In Carigara alone, five suspects were apprehended by the joint police and anti-narcotics agents in Barangay West Visoria around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspects were identified as a 56-year-old female vendor, 21-year-old youth leader who has been listed as a high-value target; a 34-year-old jobless resident, a 31-year-old fish vendor, and a 30-year-old construction worker.

An undercover operative was able to purchase one sachet believed to be containing shabu from the youth leader during operation.

Authorities also confiscated another sachet containing shabu residue, three pieces of empty transparent plastic sachets, several drug paraphernalia, P727 cash, and other personal items.

In Hilongos, police, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested a 35-year-old jobless resident for alleged selling and possession of shabu on Mabini Street, Eastern Barangay around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Purchased from the suspect was a sachet believed to be containing shabu with an estimated weight of 0.04 gram and worth P500.

Operatives also confiscated from his possession and control five sachets of shabu with an estimated total weight of 0.10 gram and with a street value of P3,000, buy-bust money, and a cellular phone.

Cases for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are now being prepared for filing in court against the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
