STAY home if you can and get vaccinated if it’s your turn.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas reiterated the appeal for everyone to keep safe amid the threats of more contagious Delta variant of Covid-19.

He noted the scenario in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) where people are patiently waiting outside the healthcare facility.

"I saw a video of a CDO hospital showing patients outside in hospital beds and in tents. This shows that if the Delta cases in our city and province are not managed well, we are in for a most difficult time,” Treñas said.

"With the presence of the Delta variant in Region 6 (Western Visayas) and the difficulties of the health care system due to several unresolved issues, the low rate of vaccinations and the long turn around time of genome sequencing, I am requesting everyone to stay at home. Let us use this ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) period to lower the transmissions,” he added.

The mayor is following up with the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF)to fast-track the allocation of more vaccines.

“Let us stay at home, avoid mass gatherings, follow the minimum health protocols, and above all, be vaccinated when you have the chance. I am coordinating with Sec. Vince (Dizon) and Sec. Charlie (Galvez). They have promised Sinovac, Pfizer and Moderna. Let's hope and pray they come," Treñas said.

“I have requested for additional vaccines from the NIATF. Let us use this time to vaccinate more Ilonggos. We need to give them more protection due to the presence of the Delta variant in our city. Halong gid anay!" said Treñas. (PR)
