DOTr chief underscores 'full' transparency in government

TRANSPORTATION Secretary Arthur Tugade has underscored full transparency in government with the implementation of the freedom of information law.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) chief stated this as the agency disclosed that it has accommodated

thousands of information requests coming from the citizens.

“I believe in full transparency in government service, by upholding the right of the citizenry to freedom of information and full disclosure on matters of public concern,” Tugade said.

This is also the Pledge of Integrity that every member of the DOTr has sworn to uphold, the agency said.

"Thus, we fully support the thrust of the Duterte administration to empower the citizenry with the Freedom of Information (FOI), which primarily champions transparency, accountability, and good governance," it added.

In the last four years, the DOTr has been recognized as one of the top performing and most requested executive department in the FOI recognition program.

As of 28 July 2021, DOTr received a total of 1,435 eFOI requests and processed 1,428 of these, while seven requests are subject for immediate action, or needing additional information.

"An integral part of public servants' work environment and culture of excellence should primarily include the virtues of honesty and transparency. Because the Filipino people deserve nothing less," Tugade said.
