THE Archdiocese of Cebu announced on Saturday, July 30, 2021, that beginning Sunday, August 1, to August 15, parishes in Cebu, which is now under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), can only accommodate 10 percent of its total capacity for religious activities.

But Msgr. Renato Beltran Jr., Cebu Archdiocesan chancellor, said this may be increased to a maximum of 30 percent by the respective local government units.

He said for Cebu City parishes, the request for a 30 percent venue capacity to be allowed in church gatherings will be known after their meeting with Cebu City Emergency Operations Center.

Fr. Glenn Guanzon, Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Worship chair, said that for the upcoming Ordination this Monday, August 2, 10 percent of the capacity of the Cebu Cathedral would be maintained.

The event would also be streamed live via Cebu Cathedral's Facebook page and at The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu Facebook page for those who will opt to attend virtually.

Meanwhile, the Archdiocese also emphasized that funeral masses amid the MECQ status are limited to immediate family members only.

"The most important consideration, as our underlying principle in the observance of our liturgical health protocols, is our coordination and collaboration with our respective Local Government Units," Beltran said.

The Archdiocese said other directives will be given soon.

It also asked the faithful to continue praying amid this time of Covid-19 pandemic. (WBS)
