LOCAL police in Mandaue City are set to conduct random motor-stop operations, random checkpoints, and mobile quarantine border control as the city starts its implementation of its modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, to August 15.
Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro, information officer for the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) told Sunstar Cebu that they have reinforced the checkpoint operations of the local police to ensure compliance with the minimum health protocols.
Villaro said all their operations will be done randomly to caught the violators in their lax state.
Villaro said instead of using tents to establish border control
checkpoints, the MCPO will conduct mobile patrols so that they could transfer from one border to the other depending on the volume of traffic in an area.
She said this operation will be enforced particularly against public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Villaro said they will check the compliance of the PUVs to the minimum health protocols.
All PUV passengers are expected to properly wear face masks and face shields and observe social distancing inside the vehicle.
The expected capacity of passengers per ride must also be observed, Villaro said.
Traffic enforcers can issue citation tickets to PUV operators who are found violating health protocols, Villaro added.
Villaro emphasized that they have yet to receive any instructions from their higher-ups if passengers are expected to show their certificate of employment (COE), quarantine pass, or vaccination card.
Aside from the checkpoints, Villaro said the MCPO will still enforce its "Oplan Pahimangno" operations.
She said they tapped the barangay officials to coordinate with them in enforcing the minimum health protocol at the interior portion of the barangay.
Villaro said they will only admonish those who violate the minimum health protocol.
But in the case that a violator resists, Villaro said they can be arrested for disobeying authorities.
Those who will violate the liquor ban and curfew, Villaro said will be sent to the quarantine violator holding station at the Department of General Sevices (DGS) new building in Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City. (KFD)
