AT LEAST 31 patients in ambulances and private cars have been waiting to be accommodated in a private hospital in Cebu City Sunday evening, August 1, 2021.

The vehicles have been queuing outside the hospital, waiting for their turn. Oxygen tanks were seen standing next to some of the vehicles.

Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak, who conducted an inspection in the area Sunday night, said that around 10:30 p.m., 31 patients have been waiting outside for their turn to be accommodated and some of them have persistent cough and difficulty breathing.

Tumulak said they could not confirm yet whether the patients are positive for Covid-19, as they still have to be swabbed.

He said at least two vehicles carrying a patient have been outside the hospital since Friday, July 30.

He said the patients waiting outside were given oxygen Sunday afternoon.

Tumulak said the street in front of the hospital was closed to limit the area to emergency personnel and to ensure that no other people will be passing the area, stressing that nurses and doctors have been attending to the patients outside.

"Kay ilang pag-atiman aning mga pasyente apil naman gawas, so kinahanglan mapangitaan natu'g paagi," said Tumulak.

He added that the City Government is extending its assistance by looking for other hospitals that could cater to the patients. (Amper Campaña, JJL)
