MALACAÑANG on Monday, August 2, 2021, urged heads of families to put their own households under lockdown to curb transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said the idea of family lockdown came from Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama.

The best way to implement what we want to achieve is for the head of the family to declare family lockdown. Kung hindi kinakailangan, lahat manatili sa tahanan,” he said in a televised press briefing.

Roque issued the call as the National Capital Region, or Metro Manila, braces for another ECQ on August 6 to 20.

Iloilo City and Province, Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoong City in Misamis Oriental are already on ECQ.

Several areas have been placed on more stringent quarantine restrictions due to the detection of Delta variant cases in at least nine regions, including NCR.

As of July 29, the University of the Philippines Philippine Genome Center has detected 216 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases with the Delta variant, with eight deaths.

The Delta variant is the most contagious among the variants of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. (SunStar Philippines)
