Meditalk: Will too much sex cause prostate cancer? (Part 2)

(Foreword: Here’s the continuation of our response to Head Bangers on his concerns with prostate cancer with too much sex.)

DEAR Head Bangers,

Now, moving on...Last time, we ended with screening tests. We will start from here. In this regard, the American Cancer Society advises men to see their doctor about screening tests at these periods:

* Age 50 for average-risk men who expect to live at least 10 more years

* Age 45 for men at high risk; which includes African-Americans and those with a father, brother, or son diagnosed before age 65 with prostate cancer.

* Age 40 for men with more than one first-degree relative diagnosed at an early age.

If you are in doubt which of these you belong to, then, at 55-69 years old, testing may be appropriate for you as advised by the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). I cannot also categorize you, as you didn’t mention your age and other pertinent data.

Yes, diet can help you, if you want to boost your health and hope to lower your risk. This means that you have to follow the following regimen daily:

* Five or more fruits and veggies

* Whole grains instead of white flour or white rice

* Limit high-fat meat

* Limit or eliminate processed meat (hot dogs, cold cuts, bacon)

* Limit alcohol to 1-2 drinks per day (if you drink)

Lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes can also help as found in some studies. But, be sure to heat them to allow the lycopene to surface and give you the most benefit.

Good luck! I hope this helps.
