Cop killer nabbed by police, military forces

AN ALLEGED member of a syndicate that has ties with the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf bandits and tagged as the primary suspect in the killing of a retired policeman more than a year ago in Zamboanga City was arrested Monday, August 2.

The police identified the arrested suspect as Jimbo Taning Asani, who was nabbed by joint police and military forces in an intelligence-driven warrant of arrest operation in Sitio Sayugan, Barangay Maganda, Lamitan City, Basilan province.

The police said that Asani was the primary suspect in the killing of Edwin Solis, a retired policeman, on March 11, 2020 in Sangali village, east of Zamboanga City.

Solis was buying a cigarette from a store when the suspect arrived and shot the victim without any provocation.

The police said the suspect was a member of the local gun-for-hire and drug syndicate formerly led by the late Abner Muharram, alias Small Boy.

The police added that currently, Asani is believed to be under the gun-for-hire and drug syndicate led by Danny Hajiri Bairulla and has a link to the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Tuburan, Basilan.

The police said that Asani is on the list of Regional Top Priority Target of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the number seven most wanted person of the Zamboanga City Police Office. (SunStar Zamboanga)
