BIANCA Pagdanganan fired in a two-under-par 69 to keep her within three strokes of the leader at the start of the women’s golf event of the Tokyo Olympics at the Kasumigaseki Country Club on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

Pagdanganan fired in three birdies in her first five holes to quickly grab the early lead. And although she would later taper off under the incredibly hot playing conditions on Wednesday, her 69 was good enough to put her in a tie for seventh place with defending champion Inbee Park of Korea and seven other players.

Meanwhile, US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso had a tough day at the greens as she finished with a 74 that was marred by two bogeys in her last three holes. She is currently in 47th place.

At the top of the leaderboard is Madelene Saegstrom of Sweden who shot a five-under-par 66, which was good for a one stroke lead over American Nelly Korda and Aditi Ashok India, who both had identical 67s.

“I think my round today was pretty good. I put myself in a good position even if I feel like I left a couple of shots out there,” said Pagdanganan. (JNP)
