FILIPINA tennis star Alex Eala could not get past Mayar Sherif of Egypt, 6-2, 6-2, to fall in the second round of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 Cluj Napoca in Romania on Thursday afternoon, August 5, 2021.

Ranged against Sherif, who is ranked no. 119 in the WTA rankings, the 16-year-old Filipina quickly found herself in trouble and fell in the first set, 2-6. The second set offered more of the same skill and aggression from Sherif who dispatched Eala to move on to the quarterfinal round.

Despite the loss, the young Filipina is still expected to rise in the WTA ladder, especially after her monumental win in the first round of this WTA 250 tournament.

Eala is currently ranked no. 634 in the WTA singles rankings. (JNP)
