Duno faces Esperanza in Miami

ROMERO Duno makes his US return in a six-round bout against veteran club fighter Ramon Elizer Esperanza in the undercard of an M&R Promotions event on Aug. 20, 2021 at the Airport Hilton in Miami, Florida, USA.

Duno’s last fight in the US was heart-breaking. He got knocked out by unbeaten Ryan Garcia via a first round knockout on Nov. 11, 2019 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergei Kovalev show.

The 25-year-old Duno fought just once since his loss to Garcia. He knocked out Angelito Merin in a single round in an activity fight in General Santos City on Feb. 29, 2020.

The 37-year-old Esperanza should be a good fight for Duno. He has a lot of experience with 42 pro bouts. He has fought the likes of ex-world champion Jesus Cuellar, and former world title challengers Fernando Saucedo and Vicente Rodriguez.

Esperanza, however, is on a seven-fight losing slump. His last win was a majority decision over Lucas Carranza in 2016.

Duno is 22-2 with 17 knockouts, while Esperanza is 22-19-1 with 11 knockouts.

World-rated Mike Plania is also seeing action in an eight-rounder against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

The 24-year-old Plania’s last fight in the US was in 2020 against Joshua Greer Jr., who he beat by majority decision.

Plania kept himself busy with a fight in General Santos City on April 30, 2021. He beat Emmanuel Mogawa by unanimous decision in a six-round fight. (EKA)
